The Intensive Training of Dialectical Behavior Therapy® is a full ten-day course designed for those who have started learning DBT methods from the self-guided study of treatment manuals and introductory workshops. This training is intended for teams (psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, neuropsychiatrists, TERPs, educators, social workers, professional nurses) who have invested in learning DBT according to high standards in order to better implement treatment in their contexts. Includes 4 hours of specific content for risk assessment, management and treatment of suicidal behaviour.

Since DBT is a treatment that requires a continuous consultation team, intensive training is designed for treatment teams, not for individual professionals who intend to practice alone[1].

A DBT team (minimum 4, maximum 8) is a group of mental health professionals who meet at least weekly to help each other in applying DBT in their clinical practice environment. With the aim of providing the highest quality training experience, our goal is to have a maximum of eight teams for each Intensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Training®. Teams should discuss and clarify their level of engagement before completing the application as enrollment is limited and there is a competitive demand for intensive training.

The training is conducted in two five-day training sessions divided from six to nine months of home study and clinical application. In the first part, lessons, videos and exercises in small groups are used to teach DBT theory and strategies in depth. Between the first and second sessions, participants consolidate and apply what they have learned with the help of practical tasks. Between sessions, teams plan and start implementing their DBT programs or integrating DBT into ongoing treatment. In the second part, each team presents its work and receives advice from trainers on specific cases and their programme, including protocols for specific treatment problems and adaptations to DBT.

Intensive DBT training provides for rigorous preparation, training and homework. The first and second parts are both five full days of training. The course is designed to model the basic elements of treatment in an experiential way and to promote team development. Just as DBT requires customers to fully engage in processing and participate in all sessions, DBT training requires intensive participants to participate in the entire training, do their best to learn the material and participate voluntarily and actively.
