M. Linehan, in 1998, founded the Linehan Institute (initially under the name Marie Institute of Behavioral Technology), a collaborative organization aimed at providing therapists and customers with a treatment consistent with the DBT model and in line with empirical research data.
The next step was the establishment, in 2002, of Behavioral Tech, LLC, as a subsidiary company related to the Linehan Institute, which deals with the DBT training of mental health specialists, worldwide, working with serious and complex patients. Specifically, Behavioral Tech aims at both DBT training and implementation and evaluation of treatment effectiveness.
Behavioral Tech, in over twenty years of experience, has helped to spread DBT through numerous educational initiatives (to date there are over 50,000 trained therapists). It also recognizes local societies and organizations that deal with mental health following the DBT model faithfully and rigorously, including SIDBT which is the national referent as meeting the requirements of "Behavioral Tech Affiliate". Thanks to this extensive dissemination, DBT treatment is now present in the USA, Australia, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, Greece, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Turkey, Russia, United Kingdom, South Korea, China, Taiwan and several Arab, Asian and Latin America countries (see below). wellavioraltech.org/about-us/our-impact/)
Behavioral Tech has recently undertaken a process of conversion into non-profit companies, which will also change its denomination in the near future. It also became autonomous from Linehan Institute.
