SIDBT was founded in 2011 with the aim of spreading DBT in Italy according to the principles of adherence and fidelity to the treatment model created by Marsha Linehan.
Since 2023, SIDBT Italian Society for DBT has become a no Profit Association with the name of SIDBT-ETS and is registered in the Single National Register of the Third Sector-RUNTS (n. 3487).
- Clinical: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) adherent implementation and to reach patients and their families in a transparent and accessible way;
- Supervision: to guarantee supervision to the teams operating on the national territory according to an agenda able to monitoring their clinical work;
- Training: to train new therapists according to the guidelines of the model and guarantee training that respects the criteria of coherence and fidelity to the original model. Disseminate concepts and therapeutic techniques of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in different and complex implementation contexts (public, private, private-social etc.). SIDBT also offers opportunities for permanent updating to its members with an annual offer of thematic seminars on key aspects and techniques of the model, free of charge. Every year it hosts international speakers;
- Research: to promote research on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) efficacy in our country and to offer wide dissemination of DBT research results in the world.
To realize these goals SIDBT, since 2011, has been sharing training programs with the leading institution that founded and disseminated DBT internationally: Behavioral Technology (BTECH; behavioraltech.org).
The multi-year collaboration with Behavioral Tech Institute (BTECH; behavioraltech.org). has allowed the recognition of SIDBT as an Affiliated Member, together with other members present in various countries around the world. Affiliation concretely means recognition of reliability and loyalty to the model of DBT training and dissemination activities in our country.
Since 2018, SIDBT has participated and collaborated in the establishment of an international institution - World Association for Dialectical Behavior Therapy (WADBT) - which has the aim of guaranteeing the development of DBT in coherence and fidelity to the founding principles and protocols of the original intervention model.
Since 2024 it has been part of the European DBT Association -EDBTA as an affiliate member company.
